My Story: Why I do this work

My path into health and wellbeing hasn’t been straightforward, and in many ways, that’s what helps me understand the clients I work with today.
I started my career in veterinary medicine, and even then, I realised that what I was very interested not only to help the animals, but also the humans who brought them. I wanted to create a place where people felt welcome, comfortable, and encouraged — not judged or rushed. Looking back, I think that was one of the first signs of the work I would eventually move into.
Later, I worked in a laboratory, where I learned a lot about physiology, biochemistry, and how the body works. I loved the science, but I missed the human connection.
I missed being able to talk to people, understand their lives, and be part of their story as they tried to improve their health or simply feel better in themselves. That’s what led me to nutrition — it felt like a practical way to make a real difference in everyday life.
In 2018, I realised I wanted to work in a more holistic way — not looking at just one piece of the puzzle, but at the bigger picture: food, movement, sleep & rest, creativity, and how people feel about themselves and their lives. I called that project Return to Equilibrium — the idea that health is often about gently bringing ourselves back into balance, not pushing ourselves harder.
I began building programmes and workshops around that framework, but then the pandemic arrived and, like for many people, life changed direction and those plans were paused.
I joined the NHS frontline at Stoke Mandeville Hospital a few months before the first lockdown in 2020, and that period changed me both professionally and personally. It was an intense time to start working in healthcare. I saw first-hand how much people were carrying — physically and emotionally — and how health is never just about one thing. It’s about pain, stress, work, family, sleep, money worries, confidence, habits, and sometimes simply trying to get through the day.
Later, working within primary care as a Health and Wellbeing Coach, I had the opportunity to support patients over longer periods of time. I worked with people living with chronic pain, fatigue, anxiety, long-term conditions, and many who felt stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure where to start. That’s when I began bringing together my background in science and nutrition with the ideas I had started developing years earlier through Return to Equilibrium.
I realised that what many people needed wasn’t more information, but support to understand their habits, their bodies, and what was getting in the way of change. So I developed my own way of working within primary care — combining education, practical strategies, and reflective coaching conversations. The aim was to help people build self-awareness, confidence, and consistency, so that changes were not just started, but maintained.
The focus was never on perfection or quick results, but on small, sustainable changes that could genuinely improve health outcomes and, just as importantly, how people felt in themselves and about themselves.
That experience shaped the way I work today. It taught me that lasting change happens when people feel listened to, when they understand why something matters for their body, and when they are supported to move at a pace that works for their life, not an ideal plan on paper.
